Debating, Debating, Debating

This week we will be involved in 3 debates. On Wednesday we have the Sydney Region Teams A & B vs Ashbury P.S. (Rd 2), Thursday we have the Premier's Debating team vs Canterbury South P.S. (Rd 3) and on Friday we have the Premier's Debaters once again vs Earlwood P.S. (Rd 4).

Here are the results...

On Wednesday 13th June, our two Sydney Region Debating teams faced off against Ashbury Public School. The topic was based on whether or not all 'Children should learn to play a musical instrument' and all the teams presented fantastic arguments. Team A consisted of Stephanie, Jayson, Lukas and Li and although they did very well and spoke clearly, Ashbury Public School won that debate. Team B consisted of Diella, Tyra and Mateen and were unfortunately missing their team advisor. Even without a team advisor Team B won their debate. Well done McCallums Hill debating team!

On Thursday 14th June, our Premier's Debating team faced off against Canterbury South Public School. They were given the topic 'All children should have a pet' and argued as the affirmative team. Team members were Malayka as first speaker, Ameena H as second speaker, Louis as third speaker and Ameena B as team advisor. It was a VERY close debate but due to McCallums Hill presenting stronger rebuttals our Premier's team won their third round! A big congratulations to the debaters!

On Friday 15 June, our Premier's Debating team had their final debate against Earlwood Public school. The topic was 'That school canteens should be allowed to sell junk food'. We were the affirmative team, however the debaters really wanted to be the negative. Oh well...they still got on with the job and prepared their teams arguments in 1 hour. Malayka, Ameena B, Jasmine and Ameena H were our team for today. Louis was happy to watch this debate and sat in the audience biting his nails feeling very nervously. They argued the case well and rebutted every single point. Both teams spoke very well and ensured they focused on 'Matter', 'Method' and 'Manner'. It was a close debate and fortunately for us McCallums Hill got the WIN! We look forward to seeing where we go from here in the coming weeks.
