Arabic CLOTE

Aim

The aim of the Arabic K-6 Syllabus is to enable students to develop communication skills, focus on the language as a system and gain insights into the relationship between the language and culture, leading to life long personal, educational and vocational benefits.

Objectives

1. Using Language

2. Making linguistic Connections

3. Moving Between Cultures

Each objective describes the active commitment student will make to the acquisition of skills in communicating in Arabic, and to the development of knowledge and understanding of the language and culture of Arabic speaking communities. The effective delivery of Arabic will emphasise the equal significance and the interdependence of all objectives. However, depending on the stage of learning, one or another of the objectives may be emphasised at any given time.

Objective - Using Language

Students will develop the knowledge, understanding and the listening, reading, speaking and writing skills necessary for effective interaction in Arabic.

Objective - Making Linguistic Connections

Students will explore the nature of the languages as systems by making comparisons between Arabic and English, leading to an appreciation of the correct application of linguistic structures and vocabulary.

Objective - Moving Between Cultures

Student will develop knowledge of the culture of the Arabic speaking communities and an understanding of the interdependence of the language and culture, thereby encouraging reflection on their own culture and heritage.

LOTE (Languages Other Than English)

Students are offered a Language Other Than English program in Arabic. This is for children who are unable to communicate in the language. It is offered across the whole school in classes K-6.
