The study of Greek demonstrates explicit links between language learning and improved literacy skills. It provides students with another perspective on how languages work as systems, thereby enhancing literacy and language skills in English as well as Greek.
The study of Greek contributes to multicultural Australian society by prompting understanding, empathy and cooperation and enables learners to gain access to and to appreciate the rich culture, history, art and literature of Greece and Cyprus.
Students learn to recognise ways in which people express their culture such as music, dance, costume and celebrations. They participate in activities associated with Greek customs and practices and engage in cultural activities at school and within the local community.
The study of Greek provides students with opportunities for continued learning and for future employment, both domestically and internationally, in areas such as commerce, tourism, hospitality and international relations.
